Zip-lining – Check List

Zip-lining:

When preparing for zip-lining, the focus is on safety, comfortable movement, and exhilarating views as you glide through the air. You’ll be relying entirely on the equipment provided and the instructions of your guides.

Here’s what travelers need for Zip-lining:

What to Bring/Prepare for Zip-lining:

Comfortable, Athletic Clothing:

  • Wear comfortable, flexible clothing that allows for a full range of motion.
  • Long shorts, capris, or pants are highly recommended over short shorts or skirts. The harness fits around your upper thighs and waist, and direct skin contact with the harness straps can be uncomfortable or cause chafing, especially on longer zip lines.
  • A T-shirt or light long-sleeved top is generally fine.
  • Avoid excessively baggy clothing that could get caught.

Secure, Closed-Toe Shoes:

  • Lace-up athletic shoes (sneakers or hiking shoes) are mandatory. They must be securely tied.
  • Absolutely no sandals, flip-flops, crocs, heels, or loose-fitting shoes. They will fall off.
  • Hair Tie/Band: If you have long hair, tie it back securely (low ponytail or bun) to prevent it from getting tangled in the equipment or whipping around your face.
  • Sunscreen: Even though you’re moving, you’ll be exposed to the sun. Apply sunscreen generously.
  • Insect Repellent: Depending on the location, especially if the zip lines are in a forested area.
  • Water Bottle: To stay hydrated before and after, as you might be walking between lines.
  • Small, Secure Bag (for valuables on the ground): Your personal belongings (wallet, keys, phone) will be left at the check-in point or in a locker/designated area, not taken on the zip line.
  • Booking Confirmation/ID: You’ll need this for check-in.
  • Waiver/Release Forms: Be prepared to read and sign liability waivers.
  • Payment: If you haven’t paid in full, have your payment ready.

GoPro/Action Camera (Optional, if allowed):

  • Crucially, check the operator’s policy first! Many zip line operations have strict rules about personal cameras for safety reasons (risk of falling and hitting someone). They often provide their own photo/video packages or have specific mounts.
  • If allowed, it must be securely mounted to your helmet (often provided) or wrist. Never hand-held.
  • Empty Pockets: Ensure all pockets are completely empty to prevent items from falling out during the ride.

What NOT to Bring on the Zip Line Itself:

  • Loose Jewelry: Rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets can snag, get lost, or cause injury. Remove them.
  • Glasses/Sunglasses: Unless they are secured with a very tight strap and you are comfortable with the risk of loss, it’s often best to leave them behind.
  • Phones/Wallets/Keys/Any Loose Items: Everything must be left behind.

Etiquette and Responsible Behavior for Zip-lining:

  • Listen to Your Guides (Absolutely Critical!): The zip line guides are trained safety professionals. Follow every instruction they give you immediately and without question, from harnessing procedures to braking techniques and body positioning on the line.
  • Be Honest: Be truthful about your weight (there are limits), medical conditions, and any fears you have. This information is vital for configuring equipment and ensuring your safety.
  • Stay Calm and Follow Directions: Try to remain calm and focused during the safety briefing and while on the course.
  • Don’t Touch Equipment (Unless Directed): Do not tamper with your harness, trolley, or any part of the zip line system. Let the guides handle everything.
  • Maintain Distance: Keep a safe distance from the person in front of you on the line and at platforms, as instructed by your guides.
  • Communicate Any Concerns: If you feel uncomfortable, have a question, or notice an issue, communicate it immediately to your guide.
  • No Horseplay: Treat the activity seriously. No pushing, shoving, or reckless behavior.
  • Respect Nature: Many zip lines are in natural environments. Do not litter.
  • Be Patient: There might be waiting times at platforms. Be patient and courteous to your fellow participants.
  • Thank Your Guides: They work hard to ensure your safety and provide a fun experience.

By being well-prepared, listening intently to your guides, and adhering to all safety protocols, you’re set for a thrilling and safe zip-lining adventure!
