Bungee Jumping – Check List

Bungee Jumping:

When preparing for bungee jumping, the focus shifts entirely to safety, mental preparedness, and strict adherence to the instructions of the trained professionals. This is an extreme sport, and almost all personal items will be left behind for the jump itself.

Here’s what travelers need for Bungee Jumping:

What to Bring/Prepare for Bungee Jumping:

Comfortable, Athletic Clothing:

  • Wear clothes that allow for a full range of motion. Athletic wear (shorts, leggings, t-shirts, hoodies) is ideal.
  • Avoid skirts, dresses, or anything that could get tangled or become uncomfortable when harnessed.
  • Consider layers if the weather is cool, as you might wait a bit.

Secure Footwear:

  • Lace-up sneakers or athletic shoes are best. They should be securely tied and provide a good grip.
  • Absolutely no sandals, flip-flops, crocs, heels, or loose-fitting shoes. Some operators may require you to remove your shoes or provide specific footwear.
  • Booking Confirmation/ID: You’ll need this for check-in and verification.
  • Waiver/Release Forms: Be prepared to read and sign detailed liability waivers.
  • Payment: If you haven’t paid in full, have your payment ready.
  • Small Bag: For your personal belongings that you’ll leave at the jump site (phone, wallet, keys, dry clothes). This will not go with you on the jump.
  • Water Bottle: To stay hydrated before and after.
  • Snacks (Optional): Light, easily digestible snacks might be good for after the jump. Avoid heavy meals right before.
  • Hair Tie/Band: If you have long hair, tie it back securely to prevent it from getting tangled or obscuring your face.

GoPro/Action Camera (Optional, if allowed):

  • Check operator policy first! Many bungee operations have strict rules about personal cameras for safety reasons. They often provide their own photo/video packages.
  • If allowed, it must be securely mounted to your helmet (often provided by the operator) or wrist. Never hand-held or on a chest strap that could interfere with the harness.
  • Positive Mental Attitude: A willingness to face your fears and embrace the thrill!
  • Empty Pockets: Ensure all pockets are completely empty to prevent items from falling out during the jump.

What NOT to Bring on the Jump Itself:

  • Loose Jewelry: Rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets can snag, get lost, or cause injury. Remove them.
  • Glasses/Sunglasses: Unless they are secured with a very tight strap and you’re willing to risk losing them. Often best to leave them behind.
  • Phones/Wallets/Keys: Anything that can fall out of your pockets or off your body.
  • Cameras (unless specifically allowed and securely mounted): See above.

Etiquette and Responsible Behavior for Bungee Jumping:

  • Listen to All Instructions (Absolutely Critical!): The jump masters are highly trained safety professionals. Follow every instruction they give you, from harnessing procedures to positioning on the platform. Your life depends on it.
  • Be Honest: Be truthful about your weight, medical conditions, and any fears you have. This information is vital for your safety.
  • Stay Calm and Focused: Try to remain calm and follow directions. Panicking can make the process more difficult and potentially less safe.
  • Don’t Touch Equipment (Unless Directed): Do not tamper with your harness, ropes, or any equipment. Let the professionals handle everything.
  • No Alcohol or Drugs: Do not consume alcohol or recreational drugs before your jump. Operators will typically test or deny jumpers who appear impaired.
  • Respect the Time and Process: The harnessing and briefing process takes time. Be patient and cooperate with the staff.
  • Manage Your Expectations: While it’s an incredible thrill, the experience can be very quick. Focus on the moment.
  • Give Clear Signals (if asked): Some operators might ask you to give a thumbs up or specific signal indicating you’re ready.
  • Be Polite: Despite the adrenaline, maintain courtesy with the staff and other jumpers.

By being prepared, listening intently, and trusting the professionals, you’ll have a safe and unforgettable bungee jumping experience.
